Warrior’s Recovery Stew: Protein-Rich Post-Workout Meal

After a demanding calisthenics session, your body craves fuel that repairs muscle and restores energy. This hearty recovery stew combines lean beef, root vegetables, and rich stock — cooked slowly over fire for nourishment that’s as ancestral as it is effective.

Ingredients

  • 500g lean beef (stewing cuts work best)
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 parsnips, chopped
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 litre beef stock
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: handful of foraged herbs (thyme, nettle, or wild garlic)

Equipment

Method

  1. Brown the beef in your pot over embers.
  2. Add onions, garlic, and root veg — cook until softened.
  3. Pour in beef stock and apple cider vinegar.
  4. Simmer over low embers for 2–3 hours until meat is tender.
  5. Season, stir through herbs, and serve hot.

Warrior’s Pro Tips

  • Cook in bulk — reheats beautifully and saves time in the week.
  • Don’t rush the simmer; slow cooking builds maximum nutrient release.

Serving & Ritual

Ladle stew into bowls, eat by the fire, and let your body recover with every bite. Training breaks muscle; food rebuilds it — and this stew honours both.
