How to care for your leather apron

You’ve invested in one of the stunning aprons from one of our key brand partners, Stalwart Crafts. How do you ensure you’re keeping it in the best possible condition, so that it will last a lifetime? This helpful guide will ensure that your apron performs to the highest possible standard for as long as you have it.

How to care for your leather apron

A Stalwart Crafts leather apron is built to last, but only if properly maintained. Regular care keeps your apron moisturised, supple and protected against cracks, stains and wear. We recommend using the Stalwart Crafts Natural Leather Conditioner, this is the best way to ensure that your apron remains in top condition for years to come.

Why leather needs care

One of the things that makes leather so precious is its nature. Leather is a natural material that requires conditioning to prevent drying out, cracking or becoming stiff. Over time, exposure to heat, smoke, grease and moisture can degrade its quality, and fire cooking has all of those in spades! Routine cleaning and conditioning prolongs the durability of leather, keeps it soft and flexible, and will ensure it maintains its rich colour.

How to clean your leather apron

  • Daily wipe down: we recommend that you use a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust, grease, and food particles, and that you do this after every use.

  • For stubborn stains: stains are a natural part of cooking, so we advise that you apply a mild, natural soap to a damp cloth and gently rub in circular motions. Do try to avoid soaking the leather.

  • No harsh chemicals: this is absolutely key - never use bleach, alcohol based cleaners, or abrasive detergents, as they can strip the leather’s natural oils, and you will immediately see the impact on your apron.

How to condition your leather apron (using the Stalwart Crafts Leather Conditioner)

The Stalwart Crafts leather conditioner has been formulated to work specifically with their aprons, so we do advise using this custom product.

  • Apply gently: use a cloth or sponge to evenly spread the conditioner across the leather surface.

  • Leave it: allow 15 minutes for the leather to soak in the conditioner.

  • Wipe down: once you’ve applied and allowed it to seep into the leather, use a clean cloth to remove any excess. The leather will be nourished and smooth.

  • Repeat monthly: we advice that you condition once a month or after a deep clean - this is the best way to ensure long-lasting protection, and a long life for your apron.

It might seem like a lot of steps to ensure that your apron will last, but we promise you, the benefits will be immediate and long lasting…

✔ Prevents drying & cracking – keeps leather hydrated and flexible.
✔ Maintains a rich, supple feel – ensures a smooth, well-worn texture over time.
✔ Makes cleaning easier – proper conditioning will help the leather repel grease, stains, and dirt buildup.
✔ Most importantly at all, this step is key to extending the life of your apron – regular care ensures decades of use.

Good luck and we hope you enjoy your new apron!
